Face covering is one of the most argued topic of 2020 when Pandemic related. Here is one example of where the debate stands.
Every single one of us whether rich or poor, has been disrupted and affected by this Pandemic in some way. For the first time (that I have experienced) the 2 categories are in the same boat. We are loosing careers, separated from human touch, limited in our movements and we are forced to wear uncomfortable gear.
OUR COMMON DENOMINATORS
-
- DEPRESSION AND UNCERTAINTY
In one way or another we all feel (or have felt) DEPRESSED AND LOST and we have common ground in stating that what we are going through feels SURREAL. It is hard for any human being to wonder what will be next: are we going to survive, are we still going to have a career and money to buy food, are we going to be alone dealing with our fears and are we going to see our loved ones soon enough…
2. INFORMATION AND MISINFORMATION
I have been watching and reading ton of material here lately and gathered information I never would have imagined could catch my attention. From conspiracy theories to politics, to medicine. I have been listening and comparing directions from Officials from different parts of the World. As a result I have formulated my assumptions but that’s really all it is. ASSUMPTIONS. There is no way I can have a definite BELIEF when the information delivered to me is so contradictory.
WHAT WE ARE DOING IN THIS CONFUSION
Fighting of course. Too bad despite sharing the same emotions and suffering more or less the same losses, we are still not capable to listen to each other and respect each other.
I see people getting angry at whom does not WEAR A MASK or does not move away when crossing path on a sidewalk; I see people spitting angry judgments and accusing of ignorance whom doesn’t believe this or that and I see people yelling at each other if one or another does not keep the required distance.
Thing about it is: WE ARE ALL IGNORANT. NONE OF US KNOW THE ULTIMATE TRUTH. NONE OF US CAN GATHER A FOR SURE TRUTH FROM CONFUSION.
Not right now at least. We forget that we are equally subject to this mess and how it’s being handled. And we forget our common denominators I spoke about earlier. These are the only certainties we all have and these should be the glue that keeps us together while instead we are more separated than any “Safer at Home Order” can cause.
HOW DO WE FIX IT
My Dad always says: TWO MULES DON’T MAKE A HORSE. Which means the stronger and the more intelligent must mitigate and compromise, for a higher mutual benefit. Here’s how this applies to our subject:
TO WHOM WEARS FACE COVERING AND RESPECTS DISTANCING: HERE’S “THE WHY”
It is the right thing to do according to the majority so just do it without bitching. Do not fuel the fire insulting whom does not and whom does not move away from your path. Just step away and eventually ask politely what you need to ask and be the horse, not the mule. Remember the ultimate cause of “their” behavior lays in the contradictions we are fed with, not in your neighbors hearts.
TO WHOM DOES NOT WEAR FACE COVERING OR RESPECT DISTANCING: HERE’S “THE WHY NOT”
I do not wear a mask while I am walking or running or reading a book at the park. It’s painful enough to work 4/5 hours shift with a mask AND a face shield during which hours I can hardly breathe and I get headaches afterwards.
BUT. I do respect my fellow humans’ fears and their right or need to feel safe. WHY NOT. It does not cost me anything to carry the mask with me and put it on as soon as someone crosses my path. And it does not cost me anything to move away or keep the due distance if I am not wearing it. Who am I to have the right to break their shelter? And until there will be clear, coherent and solid evidence of what and what not, who am I to potentially endanger my family, my co workers and my friends?
As much as I love mules, I still want to be the horse.
Peace.
